In any educational setting, Academic Integrity is a cornerstone of the learning process. In the online environment, a student’s approach to their learning defines their relationship with their teacher. Our teachers can only provide useful feedback on their students’ learning when students present work for evaluation that has been generated through their own efforts. As our teachers issue a final passing grade, they can guarantee that their students have mastered the prescribed Manitoba Education learning outcomes. If students were allowed to submit work that has not been the result of their own efforts, we would be providing final grades, and awarding high school credits, which have not been dutifully earned. Students in this circumstance would not have met the requirements of post-secondary placements, and might be admitted into programs for which they have not completed the pre-requisite skills. Properly, if Midland Adult Education Centre were to award credits and marks that were not legitimate, post-secondary schools would begin to see our institution as being unworthy of consideration as a bonified Adult Learning Center. Midland Adult Education Centre has been a respected institution on the Adult Education landscape in Manitoba for over a quarter century, and we are ever vigilant in maintaining our hard earned, excellent reputation.

At Midland Adult Education Centre, our default position is that our students will always produce and submit work that has been generated through their own efforts. To simply ‘cut and paste’ material, or use an online tool to generate work and then submit work that is not their own, or to use external sources of information to provide answers to exam questions, are all a disservice to the students’ learning, and are immoral. The integrity of our school is founded on the seriousness with which our teachers approach teaching, and we expect our students to approach their learning with the same level of seriousness.

Our services to a student will be withdrawn as soon as our online tools detect that a student has engaged in any form of Academic Dishonesty, regardless of the frequency or volume. Should this be the case, students will simply receive an email from the Director, affirming their indiscretion, and inform them that they have been removed from the class list, and we will no longer be providing service.
Our detection tools provide completely reliable information, so our staff need not spend valuable time in detective work, or in fruitless communication with those that have compromised their learning. Offenders will be dealt with in a most expeditious a manner as possible, so as to not waste valuable teacher time that is best spent assisting those that are spending time and effort honestly approaching their coursework.
